New Luxury Hotels Meeting Planners Should Know About

Every so often I take a moment and write about new hotels that may be of interest to you (my meeting planner readers). Why? I am on everyone’s mailing list and get about a zillion e-mails having to do with… all things meetings (and I mean a zillion about everything).  I figured you may not be on those lists, or just don’t have the time to put it all together. That’s part of my job.

Here are a few new hotel openings (either just opened in 2018 or scheduled for 2019), but just a few because there are so many you will get bored and so I will break them into a series of blogs…. But you can always keep coming back to check them out. Everything I write about goes into the searchable Meeting Resource Library, so there is that resource too. Here goes…

New York The Times Square EDITION

The Times Square EDITION, located at 701 Seventh Avenue on the corner of 47th Street, features 452 guest rooms with four levels of public space including a 5,000 sq. ft. performance venue, a 1,900 sq. ft. meeting studio, state-of-the-art fitness center and a lobby lounge at check in level. A 5,800 sq. ft. beer garden and event deck overlooking Times Square. The Location thing.

Aspen offers 88 guestrooms (including six suites) and 11 W-branded fractional residences plus a 1,600 square foot outdoor patio and a 12,000 square foot rooftop bar and pool, overlooking Aspen Mountain. Cool. Opening 2019.

MGM Springfield, Springfield, MA

Who would have thought… a luxury MGM property in Springfield, MA (of all places). Part of a major restoration of this industrial city a few hours west of Boston, the resort covers three city blocks and combines new construction with revived historic buildings, offering more than 125,000 square feet of gaming space, a 250-room boutique hotel on Main Street, superior spa services, diverse retail and dining, a luxury cinema, 10 bowling lanes and an outdoor plaza with year-round events, local art displays and performers.

Nobu Hotel Barcelona

Nobu Hotel Barcelona will open its doors in July 2019, with 100 rooms (and will have a total of 255 rooms by the end of 2019), 7 meeting venues including 5 breakout rooms, an 1800 square foot ballroom an auditorium for up to 100 and a small Spa. It will also soon open its signature restaurant Nobu, on the 23rd floor with panoramic views of Barcelona. Cool.

Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve officially reopened in October 2018 following a meticulous restoration of each of the property’s 114 beachfront guestrooms and suites, 5k square feet of meeting and event space, three golf courses, a five-acre Spa, all surrounded by acres of lush tropical forest. Perry Lane Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Savannah

Savannah’s got that Historic parks, stroll through the Spanish moss laden streets, browse boutiques or find a cozy nook to sit back and relax kind of thing going for it. And good food too. Perry Lane Hotel, a new Luxury Collection property, offers 167 including 12 suites, 8,900 sq. ft. of event space and lots of art. Check it out.

Park MGM & NoMad Las Vegas

Park MGM and NoMad Las Vegas are the newest resort experiences to open on the Las Vegas Strip. Park MGM opened in May 2018 with more than 2,700 residential-feeling guest rooms and suites. NoMad Las Vegas opened in October 2018 as the associated luxury boutique hotel within a hotel experience with 293 guest rooms and suites. Everything in Las Vegas is, well… Las Vegas-like, and so has way more than one would expect, even taking Las Vegas into account. So… 77,000 square feet of conference space including an Executive Meeting Center and a selection of high-touch, high-tech meeting venues for small groups called Ideation studios. Meeting space at Park MGM is designed for small groups while also offering the ability to host up to 5,000 attendees in the customizable Park Theater (yes, the Las Vegas thing covers all bases).
