Fifteen different venues in one… a reception in an Aquarium or on a “Living Roof” overlooking Golden Gate Park… dinner amidst (a great word) the dioramas of the African Hall, a product launch in a Planetarium… Dinosaurs, A Rain Forest… you get the idea. For groups large and small. Always good.

I have decades of experience creating and producing online marketing. I left the corporate world to work independently with people who need help establishing and maintaining their online presence. Not everyone knows how, has the aptitude, or time to learn how to use online marketing tools, and nor should they have to try. Those people who need help and/or don't want an in-house marketing team work with me. Each client has different needs, goals and expectations. I do custom work for each of my clients. I get to know each person and know their voice, their style, rhythm and budget.

I have a large skill set that covers the range of tasks for online marketing. It is both easy and cost efficient to work directly with me. I can get the whole job done.

Conservatory of Flowers, San Francisco, CA   http://conservatoryofflowers.org/

Located in Golden Gate Park, the Conservatory of Flowers is one of the most unique historical sites in the Bay Area. A gem of Victorian architecture (and a National Landmark), it offers five exhibit spaces with exotic plants and flowers from all over the world, combined with custom metal work and architectural beauty. Consider it.

This Museum Has Event Spaces & Galleries, Can Accommodate Anything Up To A Reception For 1,000 – San Francisco, CA

The Legion of Honor, Lincoln Park

Legion-Of-Honor-various-spaces-to-accomodate-all-types-of-events

The first thing you notice when you walk up to the museum… one of the original casts of Rodan’s, The Thinker. (and by Rodan I mean the famous French sculptor, not the giant bird-like creature that terrorized Japan when I was a kid). So you know it’s classy.

The museum features lots of European paintings, sculpture and decorative art… and between the various event spaces and galleries can accommodate anything from a private Board Dinner to a reception for 1,000. Note… the grounds of the museum have great views of the Golden Gate and the Pacific Ocean… but it is “way out there” at the edge of the continent… so depending on where your group is coming from and how they are arriving… you have to want to be there. But once there… it’s cool.

You can rent the whole art museum (for as group up to around 2000+) or just some of the individual space – SF, CA

De Young Museum, Golden Gate Park

Some cultural institution facts: The de Young is the most visited art museum west of the Mississippi, the sixth most visited in North America and the 35th most visited in the world. So… there must be something to it. :)

de-youg-museum-has-several-wonderful-spaces for-meetings-events

You can rent the whole place (for as group up to around 2000+) or just some of the individual spaces… and other than the usual museum restrictions (like you can’t bring F&B into the galleries), you can eat, drink, dance… and get some private tours of the art stuff… and just feel classy in general. https://deyoung.famsf.org/

This Smithsonian Affiliate Museum Is Not Huge, But Has Four Event Spaces Suitable For Groups – San Francisco, CA

museum-intimate-suite-for medium-sized-groups

The Museum of the African Diaspora

As part of the Yerba Buena Gardens Complex, and connected to the St. Regis Hotel, the MOAD also has the Location thing going for it. As museums go, it’s relatively new (opened in 2005), and in 2014 it was named a Smithsonian Affiliate (in the Museum Universe that is very impressive). The museum is not huge by museum standards, but has four event spaces suitable for groups, the largest can do about 250 for a standing reception. And… as I seem to be fond of saying… check it out. https://www.moadsf.org/

This masterpiece of a museum is now the Bay Area’s largest at 460,000 sq ft

SFMOMA (as in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art)

This masterpiece of a museum re-opened in 2016 after a three-year expansion… and is now, at 460,000 square feet (!) is the Bay Area’s largest. There are all sorts of rental possibilities and combinations… from “soaring cathedral ceilings to open-air sculpture gardens…and twinkling cityscapes” (I lifted that from their web site), so what I mean to say is… it’s cool.

As web sites like to say, they are “situated in the heart of San Francisco”. And they are. https://www.sfmoma.org/

If You Need to Accommodate A Large Group Exploratorium is BIG as in 100,000 sq ft - San Francisco, CA

Great-space-for-a-large-group-in-San-Francsicso

Exploratorium

As their web site says… “The Exploratorium isn't just a museum; it's an ongoing exploration of science, art and human perception—a vast collection of online experiences that feed your curiosity.” Another key word that keeps showing up… “interactive”. Put another way… it’s a museum where everyone can be a kid and that is a good thing.

The museum is BIG (as in 100,000 square feet)… so if you have a BIG group (max seated is 1100, max standing is 3500) it can accommodate pretty much anything, but it is also divided into galleries that can be rented separately for smaller events. Many of the galleries (and combinations thereof) have great views of both the city and the Bay, plus your group can play with all of the contraptions the museum is famous for.

Note… it is a museum and so there are always some restrictions, some timing issues, and a lot of other fine print… but if you can work with that, everyone loves the place. https://www.exploratorium.edu/

Need A Big, Cool Space, Close To The Moscone Center And Downtown SF, CA

City View at Metreon (www.cityviewmetreon.com)

Need a big, cool space, close to the Moscone Center and downtown SF? Then you kind of have to consider City View. It has a 14,500 square foot main room, a 3500 square foot lobby and…. Drum roll please… a 12,000 square foot terrace with an exceptional view of the city. They are just undergoing (spring 2017) a major renovation, but when they re-open (soon)…. It just has to be in your consideration set (ooh, I got to use the phrase “consideration set”). Check it out.

The Old San Francisco Federal Reserve Building Was Renovated In 2005

Bentley Reserve (http://bentlyreserve.com)

They knew how to build stuff back then. Originally built in 1924, the old San Francisco Federal Reserve Building was renovated in 2005 and while the upper floors are leased to some prominent businesses, the 8,045 square foot ground floor Banking Hall is available for private events.

Ten Meeting/Event Rooms On Four Floors & For a Truly Elegant Setting - San Francisco, CA

City Club (http://cityclubsf.com)

I discovered late in life that I am an Art Deco guy and The San Francisco City Club is perfect for Art Deco guys like me. Originally built in 1930 adjacent to then then San Francisco Stock exchange, and famous for its Diego Rivera frescoes, it is now a Private Club (but you can rent it too).

The venue has ten meeting/event rooms on four floors, but it’s the dramatic eleventh floor Main Dining Room (220 seated guests), the 10th Floor Grand Café (also seats 220 guests) and the more recent addition of the Grand Salon (130 seated guests) that you should check out if you want a truly elegant setting.

Private Two-Lane Suite, 40ft Bar and Superior Bowling Alley Cuisine - San Francisco, CA

Yes, Bowling. If you can’t remember when was the last time you bowled, it’s time to try it again. Why? It’s fun. And they take groups too, of course. (The Team-Building competitive throwing a ball while drinking and laughing thing).

They have a venue in San Francisco (12 lanes plus a private two-lane suite, a lounge, a forty-foot bar, and Superior Bowling Alley Cuisine). as well as venues in 18 other cities around the USA. Check out their web site for details on each.

The Beaux-Arts Ballroom at the Merchants Exchange, Great Design, Flexible Space - Private Suite & 40ft Bar - SF, CA

Julia Morgan Ballroom (http://juliamorganballroom.com)

Julia Morgan (the brilliant architect who, among other things, designed Hearst Castle), was cool. The Beaux-Arts Ballroom she designed at the Merchants Exchange in SF’s Financial District is very cool. The ballroom itself offers more than 4,300 square feet of unobstructed exhibit and event space, and its five accompanying breakout rooms, bar and lounge make the venue flexible enough to handle a variety of events.

Private Dining: Search By Neighborhood, Cuisine, Size, And Features

Private Dining Concierge

The PDC folks vet their restaurant members for quality in food and service (doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do your home work by getting independent reviews). You can then search by neighborhood, cuisine, size, and features. To make the process more efficient (I like efficient because I am lazy, I mean… busy), users can send one Request for Proposal to multiple private dining managers at the same time. Restaurants respond directly to the request via email.

"AirBnB” For Private Event Spaces - San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City

PeerSpace.com think of it as “AirBnB” for private event spaces but with lots of added value stuff thrown in. It’s a simple concept (now that someone thought of it). Want to have a private event in a cool venue in (for now) San Francisco, Los Angeles and soon to be New York City (and then the world)?

Go to their web site and create a free account (and say I sent you), and you can browse through their entire inventory of cool places, or use one of their many filters… and once you find something you can connect directly with the venue OR… you can chat with one of the PeerSpace people and they’ll help you find what you need. And they are nice too. I use these guys a lot.

And I should mention… it’s not just for “events” in the “let’s have a party” mode. Their staff works closely with their users to help them book space and plan for all kinds of activities, from client meetings and team off-sites to product launch events, photo shoots, executive retreats and all of those other “events that need space things” that I decided not to mention.

An important note… the way they make their money. The venue pays PS most of the finder’s fee…so that’s good… but you pay PeerSpace a fee equivalent to 5% of the venue rental. For example…if the venue charges you $1000, you pay the venue $1k and PeerSpace $50. If the venue charges $300 an hour, you pay that to the venue plus $15 an hour to PeerSpace. And like that.

Yes…it’s money. But you just saved yourself time and found some places you never would have found on your own. Click Here

On-Demand Spaces Fully Equipped, Can Be Rented By The Hour, By The Day In Many Major Cities

Breather.com I asked my contact to describe the service. Is it, I asked, like other meeting space search engines that style themselves as “the Air BnB” of meeting spaces? He said, nope. Think of it as the “ZipCar” of meeting spaces. For the most part, Breather either owns or leases the spaces. They are not the middleman.

They say… Breather spaces are available on-demand, and can be rented by the hour, by the day or by the week. With close to 200 locations in 10 cities (at the moment) you'll find a Breather when and where you need one. The only thing you'll need to access Breather is your smartphone– reserve a space and unlock the door with a unique PIN code when you arrive.

Note… currently their inventory contains rooms comfortable to fit as few as 2 people and as many as 75, Whether your team needs white glove service and catering for 50, or just need some space to talk, Breather's has options. All rooms include free high-speed wifi, a work and lounge area, as well as AV equipment.

Meeting and Event Planners Can Coordinate The Chef, Venue And Menu - NY, SF, CHI, LA, Portland, Wash DC

Feastly, Meeting and event planners can coordinate the chef, venue and menu..

To paraphrase them,”Feastly is an online marketplace for great chefs to do their own thing. It creates a social dining network for individuals in cities across the country, creating new culinary experiences for adventurous diners while giving chefs a creative and profitable outlet.”

In non-marketing speak, that means chefs from every style and cuisine (they currently work with about 200 in San Francisco) will create a menu for a one-time event and then sell a limited number of tickets to the public. They may be trying out a new menu for their restaurant, or just want to break out into something new, or they are an up-and-comer and want to create a following… whatever.

And here’s why I am writing about it.

Private events are a big part of Feastly.  Meeting and event planners can coordinate the chef, venue and menu, creating dinners and classes for your group.  You could tell them that you want French, Peruvian, Hawaiian-Filipino Fusion, Japanese, Asian Fusion Tapas, a Middle Eastern Vegan brunch, Macaroni and Cheese (presumably) and really everything else under the Sun. Every style, every ethnicity. They can find the best chef to fit exactly what you want… or it can work the other way… you tell them the date and they will tell you who is available and the chefs expertise… or something in the middle of all that.

Depending on the particular Feastly venue you choose, they can do up to 50 seated guests or a reception for 80. Your attendees can hang with the chef, ask questions (or not), eat really good food and get loud without having to worry about those other “people” in the restaurant. Another cool thing… you can bring your own wine if you want (or buy or through them).

At the moment they have four locations in San Francisco, two in Los Angeles, and will soon have one in Portland. Eventually, the world.  https://eatfeastly.com/

Find San Francisco Private Dining Venues

San Francisco Private Dining Venues:  SFPDV.com

I get asked all the time… hey, can you recommend a restaurant in San Francisco with a private room that can seat x number of people on such and such a date? Easy question. Dilemma: It takes a lot of time to figure out what matches the client’s demographic and budget, and then find out what’s available. (Unlike many places in the world), SF restaurants usually don’t pay finders fees or commissions… (don’t get me started). What is the solution to the “lots of time for no money” dilemma? If I can’t convince my clients the benefits of having an exclusive event in a really cool private venue so they can theme it, choose the perfect menu… and all of the other things I say to them, then I recommend my clients go directly… and here’s why…

San Francisco Private Dining Venues is free search engine and RFP platform for event planners to locate the best possible venue for their private dining needs. Venues range from fun and casual to fine dining with lots of choices in between. You can submit an RFP on the web site and choose which restaurants should receive it. It’s actually pretty cool. Click Here
